#TrainingTuesday: Ep-1: The 21st Century Workforce: Skills for Success

On 5th September “Teachers Day” a session was held with Somrita Chatterjee, Founder of “Self-Voyage with Somrita”.  The session underscored the significant theme of the 21st Century Workforce: Skills for Success, with a focus on the 4Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.

In today’s interconnected world, these competencies are especially vital for the advancement of women in the workforce and women entrepreneurs. The session started with exploring the concepts of the four Cs’ (creativity, capacity, conversation, and communication) emphasizing the importance of expressing oneself and sharing views through effective communication. An activity was conducted by playing music and the audiences were asked to share their feelings evoked by listening to the music. Somrita talked about Albert Mehrabian model, which divides communication into three major pillars – Verbal, Vocal, and Visual aspects. Communication is made of more than just words but, tone of voice, facial expression and body language all play a major role. We need to be careful while communicating with all elements and they all must sync with each other for effective communication. Participants were asked to give ratings individually to their own communication model. The importance of Nonverbal communication was also discussed; nonverbal communication is the act of conveying a thought, feeling, or idea through physical gestures, posture, and facial expressions. It plays a significant role in our lives, as it can improve a person’s ability to relate, engage, and establish meaningful interactions in everyday life.

Somrita focused on the creative arena while communicating on a subject or with a person. The power of presentation of the subject is highly recognised in the field of business and also while making new work arenas. One should always keep an eye outside the box to make her business outstand and grow in its own ways. Not only in business, but Somrita shared the importance of creativity in personal lives also. She also mentioned about her work in emotional intelligence and her books on self-help and relationships.
